Anita Montañez, 78, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024 in Biggers Funeral Chapel.

Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2024 in Biggers Funeral Chapel with a recitation of the Holy Rosary to commence at 7:30 p.m.

Anita was born on May 1, 1946, in Big Spring, Texas, to Eliodora Guerrero and Monico DeLeon. She grew up in Big Spring, where she attended Big Spring High School before earning an Associate's Degree from Odessa College.

Aside from being a loyal wife and mother, Anita dedicated her career to public health, working for the Odessa Health Department and the Texas Department of State Health Services in Midland, Texas until her retirement. She was known for her commitment to spreading HIV and STD awareness and for bringing a World AIDS Day event to West Texas that celebrates the strength, resilience, and diversity of the HIV community. She became a very trusted confidant and advisor to people and contractors in the health departments in the 36 counties of West Texas. Along with her husband, Anita started the Christmas for the Kids program to collect toys for children with medical issues in the Permian Basin.

Anita is survived by her son, Julio Montañez; her grandson, Miles Montañez; her brothers and sisters, Beatrice Feducia (Daniel Feducia), Benito Guerrero Jr. (Elizabeth), Michael Guerrero (Lorraine), Paul Guerrero, Patricia Sambrano (Frank Sambrano), and Barbara Allen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cruz "Bob" Montañez; her mother, Eliodora Guerrero; her stepfather, Benito Guerrero Sr.; her grandparents, Delores and Jesus Porras; and her brother, Thomas Guerrero.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the ER doctors and nurses at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, Vitas Healthcare, Mirabella Assisted Living, and the Fort Worth and White Settlement Fire Departments for their compassionate care.

Anita Montañez will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
