Arthur Drake "Scooter" Smith, 66, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness.
A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Biggers Funeral Chapel.
"Scooter" was born March 7, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda G. Woods in 1964.
A U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran, Scooter proudly served his country on the Destroyer, USS Ault. Upon discharge from the navy, scooter returned to Birmingham and became a firefighter.
Scooter and Linda moved to Odessa in 1975 and in 1994 made Fort Worth home.
Scooter began a 14 year career at FedEx in 1986 as well as becoming an office manager at Bill Wright Construction and later retired from Home Depot. He was a man of many interests who loved the joy of cooking, and considered himself an accomplished chef. He was very proud of his garden and the patio that he built.
Scooter served as a delegate at the 1996 GOP Convention. He was very proud family man, his grandchildren Jeremy, Jamie and Matt were always a light in his heart. He always had a smile on his face, everyone he met became a friend, he was there if you needed help, and always had a joke for everyone.
Scooter was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacey in 2007 and a brother, Tad in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; grandchildren, Jeremy Face, Jamie and Matthew Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
