Austin B. Snodgrass, 92, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at John Knox Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76114. Austin Burdell Snodgrass was born June 25, 1921, in Harford County, Maryland, to Lora and Grover Snodgrass. He married Frances Summerhill on July 21, 1945, in Darlington, Maryland. Austin had worked in the firefighting industry all of his life. He was a Civil Service fireman at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, Maryland, and retired in 1959. He served as a volunteer fireman with Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Department and they were active members of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church in Cardiff, Maryland. In 1959 the family moved to Lake Worth and Austin went to work for Fire Boss, a start-up company developing a chemical foam product for fighting fires. Austin traveled the States and abroad to demonstrate and sell the product. Each summer he instructed at the Texas AM Fire Training School held in College Station. Frances traveled with him and the participants of the school became lifelong friends. In 1982 Austin retired from Texas AM Fire Extension Service. Upon retirement he and Frances enjoyed traveling in their camper trailer and joined the Honey Dews Camping Club. Austin played golf, volunteered as a marshal at area golf clubs and worked with Biggers Funeral Home helping serve area families. He was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers. A traveling man to the end, he logged many miles on his little scooter and the clerks at Walmart will surely miss his daily visits. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church where he served as a Ruling Elder and in 1984 was instrumental in formation of Mens Coffee Klatch. He was a lifelong Mason and was affiliated with Lake Worth Lodge #1410 AFAM, and International Association of Fire Chiefs Southwest Division. Austin was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Frances Summerhill Snodgrass, on October 28, 2011; and by a brother, Donald H. Snodgrass. He is survived by his children, Sandra Speck and husband, John, of North Richland Hills, Susan Lenheiser and husband, John, of Fort Worth, and Kelley Snodgrass and wife, Patty, of Glen Rose; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
