Barbara June
Dennis
Jun 7, 1944 — Oct 26, 2023
Reverend Barbara "June" Gober Dennis passed away on October 26 at the age of 79 in Fort Worth, Texas. June was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a minister of the Gospel.
Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00pm, Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Biggers Funeral Chapel, 6100 Azle Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76135.
Service and Committal: 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in the Boonsville Community Cemetery.
June was born on June 7, 1944, in Abilene, Texas, to William Edward Gober and Edna Kathleen Woodall Gober. She was the 9th of 11 children (10 sisters and one brother). The family was very close and connected.
On July 23, 1960, she married the love of her life, Marvin Dennis. Throughout their marriage of over 63 years, they worked together as a team in pastoral and evangelistic ministry. June served as Office Manager, Sunday School teacher, Counselor, Minister of Christian Education, Music Pastor, and many more positions and roles.
Singing was a major part of her ministry, especially when she and her husband traveled as evangelists. Two songs that were favorites were "These old bones are gonna rise again!" and "Lights of Home". As an accomplished musician, she was proficient on the piano, organ, accordion, guitar, and mandolin.
June began to feel a strong call to the preaching ministry. As usual, when she sets out to do something, it's full speed ahead. She completed two years of coursework in four months! She received ministerial credentials in 1994 (licensed to preach) and was fully ordained in 1997. After serving with her husband in eleven churches over 40 years of active ministry, she started her career as a senior pastor in her own right.
While serving in all these roles, she still found time to build a strong family and raise two sons. She nurtured and supported them in their education and growth. They both received advanced university degrees and established themselves in the professional world. June was so proud of their achievements.
After a very difficult battle with interstitial lung disease (diagnosed in 2006) and pancreatic cancer, she departed this life for the streets of gold and into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father. June left this world satisfied with life and strong in faith. She provided her family counsel and guidance until her last breath.
She is survived by her husband, Reverend Marvin "Ronny" Dennis; two sons, Alan L. Dennis (Kimberly) and Marvin G. Dennis (SueVa); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosie Hamilton and Bettie Richards (Gene).
She was preceded in death by her father and mother and the following siblings, Jewel Faye Shrum, Alvin Edward (Buddy) Gober, Dorothy Lee Smith, Joyce Laverne Shipman, Frankie Mae Hendrix, Sarah Ann Perkins, Nelda Christine Sellers, and Catherine Kay Gober.
Even though she has departed this earthly realm, her work continues through the hearts and lives of the many who have been touched through her ministry.
