Bessie Lou Landers passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, at the age of 88 in Fort Worth, Texas. Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Northwest Church of Christ, 6059 Azle Avenue, Ft. Worth, 76135. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Biggers Funeral Home. Burial: Azleland Cemetery. She was born on January 17, 1929, to Asher Cleveland Rogers and Bessie Ophelia Turnbow in Jones County, Texas near a community called Golan. She was number 13 out of 14 children to Asher and Bessie and it has been told in the family that when grandmother had her that she ran out of names, so she gave her her own name, and that was Bessie. She was born on her sister Gay's birthday. She attended the Lou school in Dawson County and then went to the Dawson School in Welch, Texas. They moved back to Jones County when her brother was a baby around 1933 or 1934. She then attended Noodle Dome High School. She was the Valedictorian of her class, and there were only six in her class. She went to College at Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas in 1946 through 1947 to become a teacher, but she only got to complete one year of college when her dad got very sick and died in 1948. Her first job in Abilene was being a nanny. She lived with the Shipman's, who were Chiropractor Doctors, and needed someone to keep house and babysit their small children. Then, she worked for a blue jean factory and next, she worked for a men's clothing store in Abilene helping an older lady do alterations. While working there at the men's clothing store, her co-worker set her up on a date with Wayne Keller and he introduced her to his cousin, Raymond Edgar Landers, Jr.. Raymond and Bessie were married on November 19,1955, in Abilene, Texas. They had four children together. Their first child, Susie, was born on April 10,1958 in Abilene, Texas, and died the same day. Stephen Landers was born on December 27, 1963; Julie Landers was born on January 10,1967; and Janna was born on December 2,1968; all of them were born in Fort Worth, Texas. Bessie started hanging wallpaper for builders of new houses in the Fort Worth area and she did that for many years until her husband's death in 1999. Bessie was also involved in the Band Patrons Club when her children were in band in school, and she worked in the concessions stand at the home games when their children performed in the band at the school football games. She went on a band trip to Austin with Steve; to Six Flags with Steve and Julie; and to Houston with Janna. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. She loved to grow a vegetable garden; she grew a rose bush, and she loved plants. She loved to shell pecans that she got from her pecan tree. Her father and mother, husband, and one grandchild, John Campbell, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Stephen Landers and wife, Cindy of Weatherford, Texas; daughters, Julie Landers of Lake Worth and Janna Campbell and husband, Anthony of Fort Worth, Texas.; four grandchildren, Ashley Bennett and husband, Mark of Azle, Alex and Allison Landers of Weatherford, Texas and Blake Campbell of Fort Worth, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Alexis Bennett; one sister, Gay Martin of San Angelo, Texas; one brother, Howard Rogers and wife, Jewell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
