Betty Jo James, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away on October 4, 2023.

Service: 1:00 pm, Friday, October 20, 2023 at Biggers Funeral Chapel with visitation following service.

Committal: 3:30 pm, Friday, October 20, 2023 at Oakwood Cemetery.

Betty was born January 29, 1931, in her grandparents' home in Covington, Texas, to Tessie Mae Clements and Robert Nelton Whitfield.  Her father was killed in the oil fields in 1941. In 1944, her mother married Granville Lucian Bonner and the family settled in Whitney, Texas.  She attended Whitney High School where she was a cheerleader and graduated valedictorian of her class.  Betty married Joy James on September 24, 1948, and lived in Whitney until 1951.  They moved to Fort Worth settling in their home at 1646 Shenna where she dedicated her life to rearing her nine children.  Betty lived in her home from the ages of 20 to 90.  Betty became a Christian at an early age and spent her life with her husband serving in the church with the desire to point people to Jesus Christ who died on the cross and offers forgiveness of sins and a new life.

Joy and Betty were the parents of nine children-Micah Reeves (Jim), Esther Pent (Arnold), Nathan James (Susan), Rebekah Martin, Priscilla Dark

(Daniel), Jonathan James (Jodi), Elisabeth Rodgers (Chris), Leah Gower (Burke), and Ethan James.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Tessie Mae Bonner, Robert Nelton Whitfield and G.L. Bonner; her sisters, Lanelle Eubank and Peggy Ballinger; brother Robert Whitfield; her husband, Joy James; son, Nathan James and daughter, Leah Gower

She is survived by seven of her children, thirty-two grandchildren, sixty-eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Betty and Joy's motto was, "Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be." Truly they lived a blessed life.
