Obituary

Delila Mattox McPherson of Azle, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 8, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Delila was born on March 3, 1934 to Flora and Ellis Mattox in Corinth, Mississippi where she lived until her senior year in high school. She spoke fondly of her many childhood adventures on the Hatchie with her 3 sisters and numerous cousins.

After moving to Pecos, Texas in her senior year of High School, she met the love of her life, Ray McPherson and they were married in 1954. As an officer in the Air Force, Ray was stationed at numerous bases across the United States. At each new assignment Delila created a warm home and made lifelong friendships. She served her country by being strong and courageous at home raising her daughters while Ray was away on lengthy deployments.

Their final move was to Azle Texas in 1995. Delila had many creative talents that she used throughout her life to bless and serve others. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking among many other activities. Many of her creations are enjoyed and treasured by her daughters and grandchildren. Her most valued legacy was her love for the Lord and her faithfulness in prayer. Delila was a member of Ash Creek Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School class and faithfully participated on the prayer ministry team for many years.

Delila was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, Mimi and friend. She was cherished by those who knew her for her sense of humor, love of adventure, creative gifts and faithful love for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Flora and Ellis Mattox; sisters, Doris Willis, Linda Packer and Brenda Clunn and her son-in-law Daryl Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Ray McPherson Jr; daughters, Tami Davis and Donna McElroy and husband James; Grandchildren, Caleb McElroy and wife, Lindsey, Lindsey Womack and husband, Jed, Eric McElroy and wife, Melody and Sydney Davis; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
