Doris "Dot" Vernelle Porter Church went to her calling on Monday, July 31, 2017, just shy of her 100th birthday. Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Lighthouse Fellowship, 7200 Robertson Road. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Biggers Funeral Home. Additional services and interment on Saturday, August 5, 2017, in Mabel, North Carolina. Memorials: The family suggest gifts made in her name to Lighthouse Fellowship or Hospice of Fort Worth. Doris Vernelle Porter was born to Guy and "Tommie" Porter on November 18, 1917 in Harmony, Arkansas. She was the last of seven children to be called. In her younger years, "Dot" resided on a farm in northwestern Arkansas and later met and married John E. Church. A wife, mother of three, and homemaker, she and John raised their children in Fort Worth, where she and the family remained active in the Methodist Church of Lake Worth which is now Lighthouse Fellowship. Her family was important to her, as well as her church family where she remained active until her health declined. During an exemplary life she mothered and nurtured many, both in her home and in her church. Doris and John never forgot their ties to their church families, not just in Lake Worth but also in Farmington, Arkansas and Mabel, North Carolina. Survivors include her three children, Gloria Jeanne Lechler and husband, Byron of North Richland Hills, John Stephen Church and wife, Sherry of Fort Worth, Niley Monroe Church and wife, Marilyn of Wichita Falls; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
