Douglas Bruce Shear, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 79 years old.

Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he was the proud son of Margaret and Raymond Shear. Doug's life was marked by a deep sense of duty and a commitment to service, beginning with his honorable service in the United States Army. He was a brave soldier in Vietnam, where he focused on the needs of others, and this dedication carried on throughout his life.

Upon returning from military service, Doug followed his passion for music. He formed a band and became an accomplished drummer, sharing the stage with notable artists, including the beloved Barbara Mandrell. It was during those vibrant years of music that he met his soulmate, Michelle Benoy, igniting a love that would flourish for 56 beautiful years.

Doug transitioned from the world of rhythm and melody into law enforcement, serving with distinction in the Fort Worth Police Department. His sharp mind and unyielding determination led him to rise to the rank of detective. Doug worked on numerous high-profile cases, always in pursuit of justice and safety for his community.

After leaving the force, Doug embraced his childhood love for stock car racing, building countless unforgettable memories at local dirt tracks alongside his two sons, Doug Jr. and Jason. His passion for competition brought laughter and camaraderie to his weekends, proving that family was always his greatest treasure.

Wanting to cultivate the land, he turned his attention to ranching, establishing a registered Simmental cattle operation in Bridgeport, Texas. He later relocated his ranch to Bowie, Texas, where he thoroughly enjoyed the rustic lifestyle and forged strong ties with his community.

Doug's spirit lives on in his loving and devoted wife, Michelle; his sisters, Pam Vogt and Sherrill Shear; his daughter, Wendy Holmes; his sons, Doug Jr. and his wife, Chasity, and Jason and his wife, Lorrie; as well as his grandchildren, Brittni and Ronnie Bullard, Austin Holmes, Jordan and Myranda Shear, Justin Shear, Parker Gustavson, Sarah O'Brien, Brooklynn Crooks, Brianna and Brent Beggs, Logan Shear, Miranda Fatheree, Laci and Colton Fugett, Trey Pennington, and Alec Jezuit and numerous nieces and nephews. He was overjoyed to recently become a great grandpa to Brock Beggs.

Doug is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Margaret; father, Raymond; brother, Marshall; and sister, Lynn Glair. Though he has left this earthly realm, the impact Doug had on the lives he touched is everlasting and profound.

His warmth, kindness, and zest for life will be profoundly missed. As we honor his memory, let us remember the laughter, the music, the adventures, and, most importantly, the love he shared with us all. Rest in peace, Doug; you will forever live in our hearts.
