Eddie Lozada, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Album by Greystar, 8601 Cook Ranch Road, Benbrook, Texas 76126.

Born on April 29, 1948, in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, Eddie was the cherished son of Alejandrina Martínez Lozada and Luis García Lozada. As a military brat, he traveled the world, graduating high school in Toul, France, before earning a bachelor's degree in Modern Languages from the University of Texas at El Paso. A gifted linguist fluent in four languages and highly skilled in mathematics, Eddie used his talents to make a lasting impact on those around him.

Eddie dedicated nearly five decades to his career as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), with the last forty years serving the Dallas-Fort Worth community. His work began at the Tigua Indian Reservation before he joined Because We Care, a nonprofit organization introduced to FWISD in 1984, where he worked with at-risk youth, particularly in the Northside. A consultant for national training programs, he led workshops and seminars across the country, shaping the next generation of substance abuse counselors. He also provided guidance and support to individuals and families through his private practice, Semillas. Over the years, he contributed his expertise to the Psychiatric Institute, Family Services, and MHMR, where he worked until his retirement in 2022. His dedication to helping others was even recognized in the Star-Telegram in 1990.

Beyond his professional contributions, Eddie was a vibrant presence in the local music scene. A gifted vocalist and blues harmonica player, he brought energy and joy to every stage he graced. His passion for salsa dancing and his love for laughter were infectious, and his booming laugh was often recognized by former students and clients who would eagerly approach him to express their gratitude. He never met a stranger, never forgot a face, and always extended kindness without judgment.

Eddie was a man of deep faith, openly and often sharing his love for the Lord. He encouraged his children not only to know God but also to know themselves. He was one of a kind—a true showman with a servant's heart, whose legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will live on in all who knew him.

Eddie is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene Lozada of Fort Worth; daughter, Vanessa (Sam); sons, Tony Lira and Chris Lira (Casi); stepdaughters, Amy (Kelly) and Jamie Rhine; brothers, José Luis (Eva) and Carlos Alberto; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); and countless friends and extended family members.
