She was born October 12, 1943, in Titusville, PA to the late Ernest and Vivian Louise Zelinski. Her father, Ernie, was a Sergeant in the U S Marines and served overseas in the Pacific war from 1942-1947. During this period Erna lived with and was raised by her grandparents in Roseville PA. It was when death took her grandparents that she was returned to her parents in 1947. Later years she lived in Queens, New York with her late husband, Arthur Mantz prior to returning to Erie, Pennsylvania.
She continued her employment with GTE as an executive management assistant and earned an associate degree in management receiving multiple awards for improving work functions. It was there that she met her husband, Robert Hrebik. They dated for several years prior to their marriage on January 23, 1993. Robert was the technical support manager for GTE North, an area comprised of five states. The next phase during this period was that GTE and Continental Telephone Co. merged resulting in consolidations and personnel reductions/relocation again.
Robert was selected to be promoted to GTE's World Headquarters in Dallas/ Fort Worth. The effective date was February 1993. It was exciting to be starting a new life together in Texas. Erna loved to travel back to Pennsylvania to visit her family and to accompany Robert on business field trips across the US and to other GTE Command Centers.
She loved antiques, yard sales, and monthly trips to Canton, Texas. She always gathered her friends and the wives from GTE for "shopping therapy" in the big white Ford Excursion,
4-wheel drive, V10 engine. Big car full of small women determined to get the best parking spot.
In 2000, GTE and Bell Telephone merged into a new company called Verizon. Further consolidations were made and enabled an early retirement program to take place which Robert took. Erna also took her retirement package.
Erna attended Northeast Baptist Church and encouraged Bob to go and hear more about the Lord. Robert accepted his Lord and Savior on February 6, 1994, and are now members at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Lake Worth, Texas.
In 2003, they returned the favor by raising grandkids Rachel and Wil Krashoc. It was a lovely experience for Bob and Erna. They were elementary teacher aides at Green Valley Elementary for years. Travel continued, and we purchased a cottage in Tionesta, Pennsylvania on the Allegheny River. The children loved the travels and being part of Erna's parents' life, and the church camp at the Faith Baptist Church in Seneca, Pennsylvania.
Erna will be remembered for her warm smile, loving spirit and friendliness to all. She loved the Lord, participated actively in church ministries and rarely missed the Free Bible Handout on Saturdays all even with declining health. When it was time to leave, you would hear "Say goodnight, Erna" as she enjoyed the extra-long fellowships.
Erna is survived by her husband Robert of 33 years; son, Arthur Mantz; daughter, Lisa Krashoc; grandchildren, Wil, his wife, Kaliey; great-granddaughter, Valerie Grace; granddaughter Rachel, her husband, Emilio Mooney and soon to be great-grandson, James David Robert Mooney.
She leaves behind her pet cat of 20 years, Garfield.
We thank all who had a love for Erna, especially the Lord Jesus.
