Born June 21, 1950, in San Antonio to the late Mr. Jesus Rodriguez and Mrs. Belen Wetz, he grew up around the Deco District and then later Loma Park in central northwest San Antonio. He graduated from Edgewood High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baylor University. Also in that time, Ernest enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 20 years. While in the Air Force Ernest entered the program for a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. After completing all necessary requirements of classroom, internship and residency, he was promoted to Physical Assistant and earned the prestigious rank of Captain. This is how he lovingly earned his nickname "P.A".
He loved his work and enjoyed helping people. Ernest loved his family, was a caring father and stepfather, and the best grandfather. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and greatly enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching and attending NASCAR races. He was a fierce man of God and loved the Lord with all his heart and believed in sharing the love of Jesus Christ. He was a man of faith and always saw the bright side in life even during his darkest days.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Juanita Rodriguez; brother, Jesse (Rose) Rodriguez; children, Katie (Greg) Fester, Melissa (Brett) Thompson, Andrew (Maryleny) Esparza, Jennifer Esparza, Eric Hernandez, Brian (Nanci) Bauer, Brandon (Candy) Bauer; grandchildren, Colton, Logan, Reed, Ryder, Emilio, Diego, Isabella, Olivia, Ariel, Noah, Ryland, Everly and Madison; great grandchildren, Phoenix and Aspen; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends and was the best Dada to fur babies Amigo and the late Pepino Jr.
The family of Ernest Rodriguez wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders and to the Alpha Omega hospice team who cared for our hero during his final days. We appreciate all the support given to him and us as a family. Thank you.
