Ernestine Roberts Atchley, 93, of Fort Worth, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 5, 2026. She was born July 25, 1932, in Fort Worth, Texas and spent her entire life surrounded by family, friends, and the faith that guided her every day.

A celebration of Ernestine's life will be held at Northwest Church of Christ on July 25 with visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. All are invited to gather as they remember a woman whose life was defined by faith, love, and family.

Faith was the foundation of Ernestine's life. Raised in the Church of Christ, she remained steadfast in her devotion throughout her 93 years. More than anything, she desired for others to know Christ, and she continually looked for opportunities to encourage, uplift, and share her faith. Her example, unwavering trust in God, and genuine love for others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

If you knew Ernestine, you certainly knew of her love for the Texas Longhorns. She became a devoted fan in 1969 when she began attending the football games, and there was no turning back. No matter how much time passed, it wasn't unusual to find her proudly flashing a "Hook 'em Horns" in photographs, a gesture that became one of her signatures. She shared that passion with her children and grandchildren, and today it remains one of the many traditions that connects her family across generations. She had a creative spirit and loved sewing, often making beautiful clothing and costumes for her daughters and grandchildren. She delighted in dressing up at every opportunity and brought joy to those around her with her playful spirit. Ernie loved crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, and games with family, where everyone knew she played to win. She was also a faithful member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for over 50 years, where she held officer positions as leader, co-leader and treasurer while forming many lifelong friendships.

She was known for her kindness and her thoughtful habit of sending cards to encourage others. Whether celebrating a joyful occasion or offering comfort during difficult times, Ernestine never missed an opportunity to remind people they were loved, remembered, and surrounded by God's embrace. Her warmth and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like family. Though she treasured being "Granny" to her own grandchildren, she became an honorary grandmother to many, lovingly earning the title from an abundance of others whose lives she touched.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Louis Atchley; her parents, Ernest and Mary Nycindy Roberts; her sisters, Mazella Patterson and Betty Holman; her brother, Buel Roberts; her cousin, Jane Atchley; and her brother-in-law, Delane Atchley.

She is survived by her daughters, LouAnn Dunsworth and husband, Kevin, Lori Duke and husband, Kevin, and Lisa Blagg and husband, Robert; her grandchildren, Jordan Duke and Fiancé, Brittany, Rachel Duke, Jeremy Dunsworth and wife, Lauren, Delaney Dukes and husband, Caden, Elliott Blagg and Tucker Blagg; great-grandson, Waylon Duke; many cherished nieces and nephews, extended and bonus family members, dear friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

In keeping with her lifelong desire to help others, Ernestine chose to donate her body to medical science in the hope that it would contribute to education, research, and the care of future generations. It was one final act of generosity that reflected the way she lived her life.

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the hope she held so dearly. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
