Freddy Luk was born in Hong Kong to Luk Yiu Cheung and Chan Wai Fong on October 10, 1937, the fourth of eight children.

Through his humble childhood, he developed a strong work ethic that caught his uncle's attention. His uncle, who owned a stockbrokerage company, took him under his wings at the age of 14. Freddy started as an errand boy while attending night school. Eventually, he earned his stockbroker license.

Freddy was introduced to his wife, Ladia Luk, by Ladia's uncle. Their courtship started with their first meeting at Victoria Park in Hong Kong along with an entourage of family members. They married two years later on December 17, 1966 and had their daughters, Susanna and Shirley.

In 1975, the family moved to the United States and settled in the Houston area along with Ladia's two brothers, Henry and Peter Chan. The three families owned a successful restaurant for seven years. After that, Freddy owned another restaurant before starting a wholesale office products company. Upon an invitation to help a friend start a stockbrokerage company, Freddy and Ladia returned to Hong Kong in 1994. Freddy served his friend as a stockbroker until his retirement in 2022.

Freddy's family and friends knew him as a gregarious man who loved being surrounded by family and friends. He especially enjoyed planning, preparing, and cooking for them. Those around him sensed and trusted his genuine compassion. He cared deeply for people and gave generously, especially to those in need.

He also enjoyed learning and was known to read three to five newspapers daily throughout his life. He read the New Testament. He had a deep appreciation of history that fostered his interest in travel. Some of his travels took him to Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Egypt, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and parts of Europe, China and the United States.

Freddy is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Ladia Luk; his daughters, Susanna Luk-Jones and Shirley Luk; his sisters, Man Kuen Luk, Man Ching Luk, and Man Ying Luk; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends he gathered throughout his lifetime.
