Obituary

George Dayton Atteberry, Jr., 78, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 in Fort Worth. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Elizabeth Cemetery where he will wait for judgement beside his parents. Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home. Dayton was born November 13, 1939 in a house located on the Petersons family farm, now where Alliance Airport is located, ironically a just few miles from where his final resting place will be. He was the son of the late, Louise (Lee) and George D. Atteberry, Sr. Dayton learned his work ethics early in life, which he accredited to his dad. He started mowing yards at a young age and threw papers in the sixth grade for the Fort Worth Press after school. Dayton graduated from North Side High in May 1958 and went on active duty with the US Navy in June of that same year. After his discharge, he met and married the mother of his children. He eventually worked at the same occupation his Dad held for many years with Armour and Company, which was a Stationary Engineer and finally retired from Bunge Edible Oils April 2005. For Dayton, a day's work for a day's pay was important to him which was passed to him and to his children. He was a Master Mason and member of the Panther City Lodge 1183 of the Masonic Temple in Ft. Worth. Dayton is survived by his son, Gregory Atteberry; daughter, Kelli Metts and husband, Harry; sister, Zenona Grose; grandchildren, Dustin, Justin, and Lauren; two great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion Maggi, a toy Fox Terrier, who was his baby that kept him in wonderment of her intelligence and antics in his last years whom he loved like his child.
