George Andrew Hillis, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 74.

Memorial Service honoring George: 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2026, Lighthouse Fellowship, 7200 Robertson Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76135.

Private Burial will take place in Northern Ireland

George was born in Gracehill, Northern Ireland to George and Margaret Hillis. Growing up, George attended Ballymena Academy, and graduated with Honors from Queen's University, Belfast. He then obtained his Master of Science and Diploma of Imperial College from the Imperial College of Science & Technology and University of London, both located in London, England.

It was at Ballymena Academy where George met his future wife, Elizabeth. They were married in the summer of 1975, in Northern Ireland. Later that year, George and Elizabeth moved to Houston, Texas where George would begin his career as a geologist in the oil and gas industry that would span 50 years. After several years in Houston, George and Elizabeth moved to Fort Worth.

Over the course of George's career, he was a member of a number of organizations associated with the petroleum industry. At various points in his career, he was Southwest Section AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) Short Course and Field Trip Chairman, and Continuing Education Chairman of the Fort Worth Geological Society. George was also elected to the Executive Committee of the AAPG and served as the General Chairman of the Southwest Section AAPG.

George and his sons, Andrew and Christoper, enjoyed countless hours playing golf, darts, and soccer. He also loved sailing on Eagle Mountain Lake and participated in tennis and racquetball groups. George's favorite soccer team was Chelsea FC. He enjoyed watching the matches and gave everyone updates on how his team was doing that particular year.

George was actively involved in his Church for many years and faithfully served on Church Committees. He and Elizabeth loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada. However, the most special trips were when he and the family returned to Northern Ireland to see family, play golf at Castlerock, walk along the beach, visit Dunfanaghy (where George and Elizabeth spent their honeymoon), and take in the great sea breeze, sunshine, and occasional light rain. Friends and family always said that it never seemed to rain when George would return home to Northern Ireland.

George will be deeply missed by his entire family and friends. As stated by Queen Elizabeth II, "Grief is the price we pay for love." There are no words to truly express the grief felt by his loved ones.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Hillis.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his son, Andrew Hillis and wife Blair, and their son, Brooks; his son, Christopher Hillis, and wife, Katherine and their two daughters, Lucy and Annie; sister-in-law, Margaret and her family; brother-in-law, Stanley and his family; brother-in-law, Terence and his family; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
