George Drake Oosterhous was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on August 21, 1940. Throughout his life he exhibited the Midwestern values of strong work ethic, self-sufficiency, common sense, practicality, and generosity. George passed peacefully from this life on August 17, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas.

The family will have a private memorial service for George and Judy to celebrate their lives together at a later date in Texarkana, Texas.

George spent several years of his early childhood on the family farm in Gillingham, Wisconsin, with his mother Virginia, while his father George was serving in World War II. After the war, his family moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where George's competitive spirit blossomed as he grew into an exceptional athlete. He excelled in every sport that he played: golf, hockey, baseball, track, and bowling. In high school, George met the love of his life, Judy Ann Wyngaard. They both attended the University of Wisconsin where George graduated with a degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice. George and Judy married in 1966 and enjoyed spending their free time fishing, traveling, and planning their future together. In 1969, George and Judy found the perfect place to call home in Texarkana, Texas, where they were blessed to create many lifelong friendships.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He derived a sense of immense pride from his distinguished career of 31 years in the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent. George excelled in this role as he was humble but confident, quiet but strong, kind but tough, and someone you felt safe around. George shared his love of sports with his family. Tennis became the family sport that grew into a passion and gave his family the opportunity to build many cherished friendships. For years George was a champion in the adult tennis community in northeast Texas and Arkansas. His greatest joy was passing on his love of tennis to his children as a teacher and as a coach. He was his children's biggest fan as they grew up on the court and their love of tennis continued throughout their adult lives. George was an amazing role model for his children through his dedicated service to his country, as a loving father, and as a devoted husband. George and Judy were long-time members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Texarkana where he served as both a deacon and an elder.

In retirement, George and Judy traveled across Texas, Arkansas, and Colorado to bring his enthusiastic support to their ten grandchildren's endeavors.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ann Oosterhous; his parents, Dr. George and Virginia Oosterhous; and his sister, Mary Jane Oosterhous.

He is survived by his sister, Sarah Lea Oosterhous of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter, Julie Oosterhous Chadwell (Jim) of Fort Worth, Texas; sons, George C. Oosterhous (Kelly) of Monument, Colorado; Daniel J. Oosterhous of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Timothy S. Oosterhous (Kara) of Glenwood, Arkansas; his ten grandchildren will carry on his legacy: Alex and Meaghan Oosterhous; Emma (Ollie Hicks), Anna and Andrew Oosterhous; Graeson and Emerson Chadwell; and Nate, Zac and Ben Oosterhous. He will be missed by his brother-in-law, John Wyngaard (Sandra); sister-in-law, Susan Wyngaard (Jane Synder); sister-in-law, Nancy Wyngaard and many nieces and nephews.
