Herb Tilley, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 1, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. The family will be present to receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lakeside or Tribute Gifts may be made to www.curepsp.org. Herb was born April 13, 1941 in Ada, Oklahoma. Being one of twelve children, Herb learned the value of hard work, selfless commitment to family, and boundless humor at a young age. Herb left Oklahoma at the age of 16 to live with his two older brothers in Bishop, Texas. In Bishop, Herb met the love of his life, Patricia, and began his career in the oil and gas industry as a Roustabout. Herb graduated from Bishop High School, and after 11 years of part-time coursework and night school while working to support his young family, he graduated from Texas AI University in Kingsville. Herb worked for Champlin Petroleum/Union Pacific Resources his entire career where he became Superintendent of Gas Measurement. Herb also served on the Executive Committee of the International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement and continued to consult following his retirement. Herb and Pat have been faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Lakeside for over 25 years where they served in numerous roles sharing the love of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Herb enjoyed golf, woodworking, card games, dominoes, and history, but his greatest joy was spending time with Pat, their children, grandchildren, and extended family members. Herbs sense of humor was contagious. No one could escape his trivia questions and practical jokes. He loved sharing a good joke, and he never minded being the punch line either. Herb is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Haskell Tilley and Pauline Backus Tilley; his siblings, Dale Tilley, Elinor Burton, Paul Tilley, Max Tilley; and brother-in-law, Duane Bull. Herb is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia Bull Tilley; daughter, Lana Gabel and husband, Leland of Panhandle; son, James Tilley and wife, Stacey of Tomball; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Gabel, Clint Gabel, Cliff Gabel, Erin Tilley, and Katherine Tilley; siblings, Richard Tilley (Gwen), David Tilley (Connie), Gary Tilley (Linda), Margaret Tilley, Mary Sue McGinty, Eddie Tilley, and Steve Tilley; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Bull, Danny Bull (Darla), Barry Bull (Carol); sister-in-law, Peggy Bull; numerous nieces and nephews.
