H. L. McKenzie, Jr., age 99, of Arlington (formerly of Azle) passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at a local long care facility.
Service: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Lakeside 8801 Jacksboro Highway.
Entombment at Azleland Mausoleum.
Visitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2023 at Biggers Funeral Home.
H. L. was born September 26, 1924 to Hugh Lewis McKenzie and Minnie New McKenzie in Carlton, Texas. He graduated from Hico High School in 1942. H.L. joined the Navy and served as a radarman on the USS Pennsylvania during WW II. He married Lois Ruth Bolt on May 15, 1948. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lakeside. H. L. worked at General Dynamics Corporation as an electronics technician for 39 years. He was a wonderful father to his four children, Allan, Kathleen, Lowell, and Michelle. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was an avid sports fan who watched all local college and pro teams and he was a huge supporter of all Azle Hornet Athletics.
H.L. was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lois of 65 years.
Survivors: his brother, Billy McKenzie and wife, Corrina of San Antonio, sister, Camilla Teasdale of West, brother, Ronald McKenzie and wife, Dylcia of Corpus Christi, and brother, Carey and wife, Betty of Fort Worth; son, Allan McKenzie and wife, Susie of Lake Oswego, OR, daughter, Kathleen McKenzie of Livingston, son, Lowell McKenzie and wife, Kristen of Arlington, daughter, Michelle Brookshire and husband, Welton of Huntington; grandchildren, Eyde Fistolera and husband, Ernesto of Hilo, HI, Jodi Barnum and husband, Eric of Lake Oswego, OR, Ashlei Plonsky and husband, Brian of Sterling VA, Kennedy DeMarco of Arlington, Kristin Vice and husband, Brian of Hurst, Jacob Brookshire of Shreveport, LA; great-grandchildren, Maya, Miles, Ella Barnum, Oliver and Arlo Plonsky, Hannah and Ryan Vice.
Pallbearers will be Allan McKenzie, Miles Barnum, Larry Vaughn and Bill Rachel.
