Irene Norman Walker "Nanny", age 98, passed away at her home in Saginaw, Texas on January 16, 2024.
Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 in Biggers Funeral Chapel.
Interment: Saginaw Cemetery following cemetery
Visitation: 1:00 p.m., Friday prior to Service
Irene was born September 4, 1925 in Peaster, Texas to Tommie Robert Norman and Flora Mae (Lain) Norman.
Irene was the last survived out of nine children. She moved to Saginaw in 1931. Irene worked at Burris Mills, where she met the love of her life Bill Walker. They were married on October 4, 1947 in Fort Worth. Bill and Irene had 5 children and in 1963 they moved their family back to Saginaw.
After being a homemaker for many years, Irene went to work at Leonard's Department store and later went on to be a bus driver with Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD until she retired.
In 2009, Irene lost her youngest son, Joe Lee, and she was devastated by the loss. Then in 2015 she lost her partner and love Bill. It was hard for her to continue on, but she did. Irene loved sports and traveling with her family. She loved to go to ball games and live life to the fullest. Irene was a devoted and loving mom, wife, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William "Bill" Walker; son, Joe Lee Walker; son-in-law, Tommy Peacock; twin sister, Pauline Moore; sisters, Juanita Giles, Ruby Johnston, Avenell Stevens, Edith Sisk; brothers, TR Norman, Vernon Norman, and Donald Norman.
Irene is survived by daughters, Brenda Peacock, Donna Mahaffey, Dorothy Cupit and husband, Lary; son, Jack Walker and wife, Brigitte; Ten grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
