James R. "Jim" Lyons (1942 – 2025)

James R. "Jim" Lyons, 83, of Saginaw, Texas, passed away on December 22, 2025. He went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior while surrounded by the love and support of his family and church pastor.

Celebration of Life: 11:00 am, Saturday, January 10, 2025, at Lighthouse Fellowship, 7200 Robertson Rd, Fort Worth, Texas.

Visitation with family and friends: 10:00 am – 11:00 am prior to Celebration of Life.

Jim was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1942 to James Calvin Lyons (World War II Army veteran) and Mary Sue Dolbin Lyons. He spent many years of his youth living in Japan where he was active in the National Scout Organization and later in Texas before he joined the United States Air Force in 1961.

Throughout his life, Jim was committed to furthering his education. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Texas Wesleyan University, an Associate of Arts in Business Administration and Management from Tarrant County College, had focused studies in Organizational Behavior, Personnel and Industrial Relations at the University of North Texas, and earned his Master of Business Administration in International Organizational Behavior from Americus University.

Jim's youth built the foundation for the man he would become; a man passionate about the Boy Scouts of America, dedicated to a career in law enforcement, and a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. It is because of his passion and dedication that he wore many hats throughout his life. Starting as a young man with a blue flight garrison cap during his service in the United States Air Force, a cowboy hat throughout his life as a Freemason and as a member of the Aztex Saddle Club in Azle, Texas, a red beret as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 147, riding helmet from his love of riding motorcycles (especially Harley Davidson), multiple police caps from his extensive law enforcement career as a patrol, motor and SWAT officer in Lake Worth and Springtown Chief of Police, and finally a military beret as a Police Contingent Commander and Senior Executive Advisor to the ICITAP/Department of Justice criminal division for over a decade in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Sandra Long Lyons; children, Lisa Lyons Daugherty and husband, Daren of Sunset, Texas; James Robert Lyons II of Bastrop, Texas; Christopher Lee Lyons and his partner, Victor Minkner of San Ramon, California; Damon Price and wife, Michelle of Fort Worth, Texas. He was blessed by generations of love with 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren include Whitney Earley and husband, Jake; Brooke Miller and husband, Christopher; Jami Renee Lyons; Christopher Calvin Lyons; Ryan Price; Lindsey Case and husband, Zack; Gavin Price; McKenna Price. Great-grandchildren include Garrison, Benton, Lynton, Lorraine, Blaine, and Leia. His extended family includes beloved niece, Reesa Lyons-Baker Maestes and many members of the Long family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Sue Lyons; siblings, Luther Alan Lyons and Dallas Sue Lyons; and stepson, Darrin Price.

As Jim's family reflects on his life, they are comforted in knowing he led a life filled with laughter, adventure and the many "hats" he wore. And although the hats may have changed over time, his commitment to being a devoted husband, loving father, inspiring leader, supportive mentor, and optimistic visionary never did.
