James Lee Rankins Jr. was born on March 3, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, to James Rankins Sr. and Mary Rankins. Raised in a Christian home, James began his education at Wilson Elementary School in Bellwood, Illinois. He continued his studies at Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois, in 1988.

Following high school, James proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served his country while stationed in Germany.

James shared a meaningful relationship with Katie McKinney, and together they welcomed their daughter, Teresa Ashley Rankins, in 1993. James was a devoted father and a proud grandfather to Juan Garcia Jr. and Catalina Garcia.

The eldest of four siblings, James was a loving big brother to Michelle Sallis, Kimberly Farris, and Karisa Rankins. Throughout his life, James worked in the transportation industry, including positions at Sterling Transportation and other freight companies.

James leaves to cherish his memory: his father, James Rankins Sr.; his mother, Mary Rankins; his sisters, Michelle Sallis, Kimberly Farris, and Karisa Rankins; his daughter, Teresa Ashley Rankins; and his grandchildren, Juan Garcia Jr. and Catalina Garcia.

He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews: Kendrick Sallis, Marcus Sallis, Malik Sallis, Jordan Farris, Jalen Farris, Jayvon Farris, Danny Hammitte, and Elijah Jones; and his nieces: Jazlyn Farris and Jada Farris.

James is preceded in death by several beloved aunts and uncles on both sides of the family.

James will be remembered for his service, his dedication to family, and his steady presence as a son, brother, father, grandfather, Uncle, and friend.
