Jean S. Hammond, 97, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. Jean lived a full life and enjoyed everyone she met. She had many friends where she had lived at The Vantage Senior residence. We all will miss her happy and outgoing personality; ability to talk with everyone and walk through the journey of life in a positive way.

Final Rest and Memorial: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery, followed by Appreciation of Life and Remembrance at Arborlawn United Methodist Church, 5001 Briarhaven Rd. Fort Worth, Texas.

Jean was born November 13, 1926 in the Bronx, New York to John Henry and Alma Schnaufer. She attended art school in New York City and did several fashion sketches for city magazines. Jean was an accomplished and talented artist, continuing her love for painting throughout her life.

Jean met the love of her life, Roy, at the First Presbyterian Church in Throgs Neck, in the Bronx, and after the war, they were married on June 14,1947 with many friends and family attending. They bought their first house in Ossining, New York, and raised two daughters there, Gail and Carol. Both Jean and Roy were active members of the First Presbyterian church in Ossining. The things Jean most enjoyed with her family were the family sailing weekends on the Hudson River, being members of Torview Swim Club, and traveling. Roy was employed by American Airlines, and they were able to do much traveling for many years.

In 1979, Jean and her husband moved from New York to the Dallas Fort Worth area, as part of the airline's corporate move. They lived in the Lake Country Estates where they played golf, continued to do extensive traveling to many places, and made many new friends. After Roy's death in 2008, Jean moved to Broadway Plaza Senior Residence in Fort Worth, where she lived for many years; finally living at The Vantage residence for the past two years.

Jean's passion for life was multi-faceted. She had a deep love for family- took a big part in watching her daughters grow up, experiences in their lives; she loved to work on genealogy; look at detailed records of her parents, grandparents and relatives whom she loved and kept close to her heart; Love for the seashore, boating, and beaches, where she and Roy spent many summers on Long Island at her parent's beach home. Love for animals/wildlife-she loved all her daughter's pets, from dogs, cats and horses, including her own pet cats Scotty, Tammy, and Jenny. Jean worked as a volunteer at the Fort Worth Zoo, loved going to Fossil Rim Wildlife Park, supported several animal rescue organizations, and was a member of the Lake Country Wildflowers Garden Club from 1981, and was president from 2002-2004, and again in 2023. Travel: She always was eager to go somewhere new, various cruise trips and recent Canadian railroad trip; Art/Music: She was a gifted artist, and endlessly loved 1940's music, Frank Sinatra being her favorite; Jean also was an avid reader of many books.

Jean was a gloriously happy, caring, loving person; loved life, loved her family, pets, and was deeply patriotic for America. God's grace was always a part of her life, as she attended several churches in the area on a regular basis. God and the angels have welcomed Jean into Heaven with open arms.

Contributions to her favorite organizations could be made to the Fort Worth Zoo, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas, and the North Texas Humane Society.
