Jimmy Byrd entered into heaven on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A.M. Saturday, July 16, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The recitation of the rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Biggers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund. Jimmy was born in Paris, Texas on February 11, 1945. His family moved to the North Side of Fort Worth when he was a young boy. Jimmy attended Turner Elementary, JP Elder Middle School, and graduated from North Side High School. Soon after his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served a tour of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War era. Jimmy had a varied career working for Vance Godbeys for a number of years, General Dynamics, Wonder Bread, Hawk Plumbing, became an independent distributor of cookies, and rounded out his career as an office manager. Jim loved people. He still met with his old North Side buddies and loved their company and get-togethers. He really enjoyed his wifes teacher friends and enjoyed outings with them. But his biggest love was his family. He was so very proud of his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He loved his mother-in-law and enjoyed the verbal sparring with her and his other in-laws. Jim always told his wife hed live to 100, but the Good Lord called him home. A convert to Catholicism, Jim was at home at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Heaven is now a soul richer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Fannie Byrd, his brother, Bobby, and one nephew. Keeping with Jims wishes, his body will be donated to UT Southwestern Medical Center. Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sylvia; daughters, Kelly of Lubbock and Melissa of Fort Worth; two sons, Brandon and Jimmy of Fort Worth; Jimmys wife, Amy; four grandchildren, Jacob, Christopher, Ava and Jackson; a host of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
