John Robert Adams, 77, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025, at his home after a brief illness.

John was born October 18, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating Fraser High school in 1966, John enlisted into the Air Force later that year. He met Linda Curtis in 1968 at the Service Club while serving at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Their courtship would be interrupted, however, in 1969 John was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay, in Vietnam, in the Mobile Air Command. After serving a year in Vietnam, he returned and married Linda in San Antonio on January 31, 1970. Shortly after they were married John was stationed at Dover Air Force base where he mostly worked on cargo and refueling planes. Robert was born, while stationed there, in 1976, but in 1980 they transferred "a bit" to the west. In 1980 John was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base Head Quarters, continuing the work he was trained in, and loved to do, working on planes. John remained there with his family until 1986, but not until he reached the highest level for enlistment as a Chief Master Sergeant. During the ceremony for his final promotion he, with his family close to him, lowered the U.S. Flag that flew atop the memorial of the U.S.S. Arizona. Something that was fondly remember to this day.

In 1986 he transferred to Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth Texas, where he was the head of the base closure until 1993. After the closure, Chief Master Sergeant John Adams retired honorably, and decorated, with 27 years of service.

From 1994-1996 John worked at Agap as a production manager, continuing his work with aircraft engine rebuilds. In 1996 he worked as a Production Supervisor for Aramark until his full retirement in 1999.

Though Linda continued to work as a Librarian for Boswell High School until her retirement in 2022, John kept busy around the house. He enjoyed landscaping, though he may have called it "puttering" in the front and backyards. He enjoyed sitting out on the front patio where he made friends with some of the animals that passed by. One in particular, that he looked most forward to, was dog named Minnie, whose daily walks took her past John's house. John enjoyed these visits and developed an understanding with Minnie; just how many treats were to be accepted, four, no more, no less. If john couldn't be there when she arrived, the treats, always 4, were left in the mailbox with her name on it.

John and Linda also enjoyed taking trips to the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma where they enjoyed the different dining options, as well as people watching, though don't let John kid you, he wasn't that bad at pulling the handle on a slot machine.

"Boss and Skinny," as they affectionately referred to each other, were married for 55 years this past January. Every year, during their anniversary period, John sent flowers to where Linda worked. Sure to mark the milestone, but some think that it provided the perfect "good hubby" trap. One that caused Linda to have to boast about just how special their relationship was. It was special, and the loss is profound, but John led a blessed life. Not to say it wasn't difficult at times. It was one not only devoted to the service of his country, but also devoted to his close, albeit small family. A family that depended on each other, that found strength in each other and loved each other very much.

A family that will forever regard him as their hero.

John is survived by his wife, Linda (Curtis); son, Robert; and brothers, Charlie and Mark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eleanor.
