It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Vinson Gatson, Jr., who was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Son, Sibling and Friend. He passed on Saturday, June 22, 2024 and he displayed extreme perseverance to spend as much time as possible with his family, who loved him dearly.

Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M., Monday, July 22, 2024, Biggers Funeral Chapel.

Committal: 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

John V. Gatson, Jr. was born on September 6, 1941, to Annie Louise and John Vinson Gatson, Sr. in Miami, Florida. As a young boy, he moved to New York City with his family where he was raised and was described as a very adventurous and inquisitive young man in an excessively big city. In high school, he mastered auto mechanics, which armed him to be phenomenally successful in the military. John enlisted in the Army in 1959 and served in both Army and Air Force. His military occupational specialties were Maintenance Management Technician, Technical Aircraft Maintenance Technician and Instructor. During his military career, he was deployed to serve his country in Vietnam War. He retired from the military on October 31, 1981.

Following retirement from the military, from 1981 to 2000, John worked for two trucking companies (Ryder Transportation and American Central Transport) and the U.S. Postal Service (Dallas, Texas). He retired from the Post Office on May 31, 2000. Additionally, following his retirement from the Post Office, he launched his own trucking company named "Start to Finish". This allowed him to continue his passion for driving trucks. In addition to work, John also enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing. With respect to the latter, he was an original member of the Osprey Bass Angle Club for about 35 years.  He spent many weekends on the lake with his good friend Kartez Cook, practicing for local and national tournaments.

John's infectious sense of humor will be missed, and we take solace in knowing that he is now at peace, free of pain and he will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

John was preceded in death b his parents, John Vinson Gatson, Sr. and Annie Louise Gatson; and his brother, Bobbie Gatson.

John leaves behind his loving wife, Carrie E. Gatson; a son, Joshua Wayne Gatson; one stepdaughter, Tina Dais; two stepsons, Tommy Winston Jr. and Tyrone Winston; three siblings, Larry Gatson, Connie Gatson and Keith Gatson; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and great friends.
