John Dallas Grimes passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital - Alliance.

Mass of the Resurrection: 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with a Recitation of The Holy Rosary to commence at 9:30 am prior to the Mass.

John was born May 9, 1938 to Mary Jane Baird and Jack Everett Grimes on Mother's Day in St. Joseph, Missouri.  He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in St. Joseph, Missouri where he played basketball and football. He then attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and the University of Missouri – Rolla in Rolla, Missouri.

After college, he worked in the office for the Union Pacific Railroad in St. Joseph, Missouri until he was transferred to the Kansas City, Missouri headquarters. During that time, he met his wife Mary, and they had two children, Johnny and Lisa. John was employed and retired from Remington Arms Company / Olin Corporation in Independence, Missouri, as a ballistics manager after 31 years of service.

John was an avid sports fan, especially for the Kansas City Chiefs and loved playing golf. He was an active participant in his children's lives. He coached baseball, basketball, and soccer and refereed all three sports as well volleyball. He was also President of the Heart of America Soccer Association (HASA) in Kansas City, Missouri.

He became a Lay Minister at Our Lady of The Presentation Catholic Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri in the 1970's. He was also a minister of communion to the homebound. John and Mary were teachers of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes (CCD) for several years.

They moved from Lee's Summit, Missouri to Fort Worth, Texas in 2004. They became active members of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church. John continued his Lay and Homebound ministries and proudly became an Acolyte. He was a member of the Bereavement Committee. John and Mary volunteered their time for many years at the St. Thomas food pantry for both pick-up and distribution. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 10930. John was involved with the 4-H project at St. Thomas.

His church and family were the most important in his life. John was faithful, kind, giving and most of all loving.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John, a brother, David, and cousin, Larry Flannery.

John leaves behind his wife, Mary of 60 years, daughter, Lisa of Missouri, granddaughter, Madeline of Kansas, and sister, Cheryl Benjamin of Virginia as well as many close family members and friends.
