It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Dee Loftis, on July 11, 2026, at the age of 79.

Service: A dignified memorial of his life will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 3pm.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his life and celebrate the remarkable man he was.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Born on May 30, 1947, John lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, a deep love for family, friends, and joy from the adventures in life.

He was a proud Captain with American Airlines for 28 years and FAA Check Airman, a career he loved and devoted many years of service.  He was also a Lieutenant Commander Naval Aviator in the U.S. Navy for 13 years. His strong work ethic, professionalism, warm personality, and willingness to help others earned him the respect and friendship of countless colleagues throughout his career.

Outside of work, John found great happiness spending time with his wife Susan and their poodles, who were faithful companions and brought him endless joy.  He was also a lifelong owner of many classic cars.  His latest one is a 1974 Volkswagen Bus, and he and Susan enjoyed being members of the Fort Worth Volks Folks Club. Along with cars, he enjoyed traveling and creating lasting memories with those he loved.  He and Susan were also members of FRVA Monaco America Club and took many trips with this adventurous group. Also,  they spent many fabulous years in the summer on the Oregon coast.

Above all, John cherished his family.  He will be remembered for his generous heart, quiet strength, sense of humor, and the love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.  His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the memories his family and friends will forever hold close.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay Loftis; twin daughters, Michelle Loftis and Melinda Guidry; his son in law, Brad Guidry; grandchildren, Lindsey-Kay Reichert and Joseph Bowlin; his brother, Randy Loftis, and sister-in-law, Liz Loftis; and his sister, Linda Tobias.

He was preceded in death by his parents Randall and Faye Loftis.

In the words of his brother and lifelong best friend Randy, "I am unable to express the sadness that I feel from his recent passing. I am so grateful that he is now in Heaven and that I will see him again someday when we will be joined together in Heaven for eternity with those who believe in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.   The memories that I hold in my heart for John are of his kindness, generosity, loyalty and compassion.  I always admired his many exceptional talents and abilities, including his military service as a Navy pilot and his career as an American Airlines Captain.  He enjoyed many activities that required special talents like scuba diving, operating his large motor coach and working on his boat and exotic automobiles.    He had the ability to make mechanical repairs to vehicles of all kinds and to make needed repairs to his home and other buildings.  He always enjoyed exploring the Colorado mountains on his motorcycle and in his Jeep, hiking the trails and looking into the old mining tunnels.   He had many loyal friends who shared his numerous interests.  I am honored and blessed to have shared my life with John, my brother and best friend."

Though he is no longer with us, his love, kindness, and adventurous spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
