Jon Rhett Dorough was born on February 3, 1966, in Fayetteville, Cumberland County, North Carolina, and departed this mortal life on August 15, 2024, in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 12 days. He was the 5th child of Aaron Gregory Dorough and Nelda Faye (Early) Dorough. He was an Army brat, moving from place to place, finally landing in Fairfax, Virginia at about age 6 and grew up there. He attended Robinson High School and graduated from there in 1984. Jon played high school football as a defensive back and swam on the school swim team. He was an all-star breast stroker and still holds the record in Northern Virginia for 25-yard breaststroke.

After graduation he worked as a bail-bondsman, catching and returning bail-jumpers back to jail. He also worked for several years managing restaurants and billiard rooms. In 1986, Jon married Maryclaire Balsdon, and one year later they had his only son, Kevin Dorough, in 1987. Jon was divorced a few years later.

Jon spent the last six years of his life in a nursing home and after 20 days in the hospital died under hospice care.

Jon was preceded in death by his mother, Nelda Faye (Early) Dorough; his older sister, Nelda Phaye Dorough Cook.

He is survived by his son, Kevin Dorough (Hannah); one granddaughter, Keeva; one grandson, Brodie; his father, Aaron Gregory Dorough (Daisy) of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Terry (Pat) Fogleson; three brothers, Greg (Carla) of Alabama, Robert (Diana) of Texas; and Jason (Tara) of Texas; one niece, Heather George of Alabama; ten nephews, William Cook of Virginia, Christopher Cook of California, Nick Cook and Peter Cook of Virginia, Michael Fogleson of Colorado, Matthew and Benjamin Dorough of Texas, Aaron Dorough of Alabama, Joshua Dorough of Texas, Timothy Dorough of Virginia; six great-nephews and five great-nieces.
