Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Biggers Funeral Home.
Buck was born in El Paso, Texas July 3, 1937, one might say he was almost a firecracker, but those of us who knew him, knew he actually was. In his childhood, he, his older sister and cousin, Toby Tedford were in tow behind his dad and Mom all over the United States including Nevada and California, Arizona back to California and Texas. They settled on a farm in Weatherford and then after graduation, he had a choice of school, getting married or joining the Navy.
He attended Texas A & M, then joined the Navy and met the love of his life, Beverly Jones. They got married one year after her graduation. Once again, the next twenty-four months were a whirlwind of travel as his job moved them around. Within six months, they were in Freemont, Nebraska. Six months later, they were in Cheyanne, Wyoming. Two months after that was Kansas, two months later, Oklahoma and one month later, they were back to Texas…just in time for their first bundle of joy, Ray, Brian, Michael and DeAnna came in quick succession, with all four being born in six years. Once they were all grown, Buck and Beverly gave each other a high five, enjoyed the empty nest and built a new house.
God led them from Emmanuel Baptist in Weatherford, where they spent so many happy years developing deep friendships, to First Baptist Church of Lakeside where they met a crazy group of "Senior Teenagers" aka "Sen-agers" who were enjoying their lives as they were also starting to do. They dearly love and enjoyed fellowship with these young at heart through potluck nights, cruises, and road trips.
Buck was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Edward Thomas (when he was only a two-year-old); Raymond W. Booker (the father who raised him); his mother, Kitty Zell Morgan Booker; his sister, Betty Zane Scrimshire and niece, Terry Zane Scrimshire all of Franklin, Texas; as well as his daughter-in-law, Marisa Key Thomas of Saginaw.
He is survived by his son, Ray Dean Thomas of Saginaw; son, Brian Thomas of Saginaw; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kim Thomas of Weatherford; daughter and son-in-law, DeAnna and Joe Jordan of Windsor, Pennsylvania; six grandsons, Drew Thomas, Tal Thomas, Isaiah Breckenridge, Kadin Thomas, Lance Thomas and Wesley Thomas; three granddaughters, Kamika Brown, Megan Thomas and Hailey Thomas; two great-grandsons, Caleb Bryant and David Bryant; one great-granddaughter, Saya Brown; brother-in-law, Owen Scrimshire; brother and sister-in-law, Durrell and Cathy Jones; good friends, Marjorie Lynch and Wanda Boyles; good friend and companion, Jo Cheatham; nieces, Nikki Bush, Karen Calloway, Jennifer Lewis; nephews, Raymond Scrimshire and David Jones; and a number of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and a list of dear friends too numerous to list.
