Larry was born February 3, 1944 to Wilbur and Sylvia Barkie of Williston, North Dakota where he attended school and graduated. Williston High School is where he was very involved in sports during his years there. He eventually moved to Phoenix, Arizona to attend Arizona State University and then returned to North Dakota where he attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks and graduated with a degree in business.

Soon after, receiving advice from his dear friend, Lynn Laske, he joined Levi Strauss in 1971 and retired as a regional manager in 1999, and pursued his lifelong passion for golf.

Larry moved to Dallas, Texas in 1987 and there is where he met his loving wife, Barbara. They were married on December 19, 2001 and spent twenty three years in a blissful and loving marriage together. Along with Barbara's son, Gil and his two-year-old twin daughters, they decided to live together and raise the girls as one family. It was a wonderful time in their lives and provided many beautiful and lifelong memories. Larry was always referred to as their second daddy. The girls and their daddy lived with us for the next eighteen years, how blessed and happy we were.

Larry was preceded in death by his loving parents, Wilbur and Sylvia Barkie; his sister, Darlene Beedy; sister, Connie Lynch and brother, Dennis Barkie.

Survivors: He leaves behind his wife, Barbara; stepson, Gil Coffer; granddaughters, Kimberly Cruse and Leann Coffer; his sister, Marvy Dittmer; niece, Lisa Welte; nephews, Mark Dittmer, Scott Beedy, Michael and Cory Lynch; cousins, Scott Ferris and Jim Abraham; numerous other cousins and a host of lifelong friends, whom he cherished.
