Marietta was born March 09, 1948, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Raymond Owens and Frances (Urban) Owens.

At the age of 6, in 1954, Marietta moved to Lacrosse, KS, and in 1973 she made her way home to Texas. Marietta gifted the world with 2 beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Andrea. On February 24, 1996, Marietta married James "Marshall" Hughes. Over the years, Marshall and Marietta traveled and danced, the nights away surrounded by loving friends. Marietta loved spending time and holidays with her family and grandchildren. She loved watching her granddaughters at their dance recitals and doted over the brilliance of her grandson.

Marietta's legacy lives on through her husband of 27 years, James Marshall Hughes; her daughter, Stephanie and husband, Dave Kuntzendorf; her daughter, Andrea and husband, Keith Wilson; grandchildren, Kayla Edwards, Jaimee Dowis, and Steven Kuntzendorf; brothers, Ray Owens and wife, Meiko, Jim Owens and wife, Nancy, Dennis Owens; and sisters, Doris and husband, Jim Cloud, Deb and husband, Dave Girrens, Carol and husband, Mike Spangler, Sandy and husband, Larry Wallace.
