Obituary

Martha Carolyn Doherty was born October 23, 1937 and died February 23, 2021 at the age of 83 years old. Carolyn attended Bluff Springs Elementary, Azle Elementary and graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart Bob Doherty who served as a Texas Highway Patrolman and then Texas Ranger before his death in 1978. Carolyn enjoyed entertaining around her pool where she hosted many church groups and parties. She was known for her generosity and her love of bible study. As a teenager, Carolyn taught 3 year olds at the small country church Elm Grove Baptist, later she taught a College and Career class and also a Singles class at First Baptist Church of Lakeside where she joined in 1974. Teaching bible study classes was one of the greatest joys of her life. She greatly enjoyed her role as grandmother to her grandchildren and spent a tremendous amount of time raising them along side their parents. She was a blessing to her family in so many ways. Carolyn is rejoicing to be reunited with her husband, family and friends in heaven and her brothers and sisters in Christ who are left here behind have peace in knowing they will see her again soon. She will be remembered as a faithful wife, loving mother, a daughter who honored her parents and a generous friend. Carolyn's life is a testimony to the power of God to provide and protect those who belong to him. She is preceded in death by her father Alberta 'Bert' Sidney Walter, her mother Bonnie Dell Davis Walter and two brothers, Buster Clayton Walter and Bennie Wayne Walter. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Texas Ranger Bobby Paul Doherty who was killed in the line of duty February 21, 1978. She leaves behind her daughter Kelly Lyn Doherty McIlveene, Kelly's husband Joe McIlveene and their two children Joseph Hampton McIlveene and Jillian Claire McIlveene. Also surviving her is son Buster Wayne Doherty, his wife Patti Doherty and their twin sons Bobby Tavish Doherty and Brodie Paul Doherty. She is also survived by niece Marcy Walter Pinkston and her husband Aaron Pinkston and their son Bennett Ellory Robert Pinkston; and niece Shannon Walter Gillaspia, her husband Mike Gillaspia and their twin daughters Ella Reagan Gillaspia and Kate Michaela Gillaspia.
