Michael William "Mike" McKown was born on March 28, 1949 in Chambersburg, PA. He lived in Hagerstown, MD with his parents, Edward S. and Corda Mae (Hicks) McKown. The family moved to Texas in 1957 as his father took a job at Convair on the B-58 program.

The family immediately bought a house on Lake Worth, where Mike grew up enjoying lake life. The family joined the Lake Worth Boat & Ski Club which became the center of their social activity. Mike was an accomplished water skier competing in tournaments around the region.  Mike was a two-time national tournament qualifier in ski jumping. He performed in many water ski shows in our area performing as Aqua the Clown.

Mike attended Lake Worth Elementary, J.P. Elder Junior High School and Lake Worth High School. Mike was very active in high school. He was a two-year letterman in football and track, elected to the Student Council, and received any individual recognitions in high school. Mike graduated with the Class of '67 and has remained active serving on the reunion committee for his class.

Mike, his wife, Christine and son, Chris lived in the River Oaks area for many years. He was very active in the community. He served as a little league baseball coach for the West Side Lions where he also served on their Board of Directors. He was a Scout Master in Troop 143 sponsored by the River Oaks Methodist Church. As a member of River Oaks Lions Club, Mike served as President in 1991 when the club was named Club of the Year in Fort Worth by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Mike also served as President of the Lions Organ and Eye Bank of District 2E-2. Mike and Christine attended 13 Lions International Conventions around the world. Mike was elected to three terms as a Trustee in the Castleberry Independent School District serving from 1988 through 1997.

Mike graduated from TCU and began a 34-year career at Lockheed Martin, retiring in 2011. He worked in the F-16 Program Office and Contract Management. Following graduation, Mike participated in many TCU activities including TCU Alumni Assn., Frog Club, TCU Fine Arts Guild, Friends of Fine Arts and First Nighters. Mike and Christine attended many Bowl Games and other activities.

Mike was baptized at Rosen Heights Baptist Church and was a charter member of Northwest Baptist Church. Mike has attended Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for 45 years.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Joan Anderson Posluszny; brother and sister-in-law, Rob and Arlene Anderson Jones and sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson McClatchy.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Christine; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Ashley McKown; granddaughters, Brysen and Braylee McKown all of Parker County; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jean Anderson Richerson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are Vernon Horn, Tito Rodriquez, Ken Spracklen, George Gillen, Brad Brewster and Richard Davis.
