Fort Worth, Texas - Maj. Norman Knofs (Ret.), a man of service, earned his heavenly wings Thursday, August 19, 2021 at home, attended by his beloved wife, Irene. Funeral services: Noon, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment: 2:30 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday August 23, 2021 at Biggers Funeral Home. Memorials: The family of Norman asks that in lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation in his name to Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County, Texas. Norman was born January 15, 1934 in Riga, Latvia and subsequently immigrated to the United States in 1957. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1957 and deployed to Germany in 1959, where he met Irene, the love of his life. Returning to Ft. Bragg, N.C. in 1961, he and Irene were then married in Fayetteville, N.C. Norman served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he flew the OV - 1 Mohawk. Upon returning from Vietnam, Norman completed his Baccalaureate Degree at the University of Nebraska. He retired from the military in 1977 after 20 years of distinguished service. Norman was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, four Bronze Stars, 27 Air Medals, and various other medals and decorations. For the next 20 years Norman served as an Operations Officer with the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 2000. Norman was a long time volunteer with Tarrant County Meals on Wheels for 30 years. He enjoyed traveling with Irene throughout this country and overseas. Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Knoff and Eleanora Knoff Balgalvis; his brother, Rudiger Knoff; and a grandson, Harrison Knofs. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene Knofs; brother, Gunnar Knoff (Renate); he is also survived by his and Irenes three children and their spouses, Mark Knofs (Christine), Dean Knofs (Stacy), and Monique Knofs Smith (James Jones); sons, Randy Sisk (Svetlana) and Bernd Turner (Nancy); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved very much.
