Obituary

Oggletta M. Burns, 90, a retired teacher, passed away Saturday June 7, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rosen Heights Baptist Church. Interment will be in Saginaw Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home. Oggletta was born April 23, 1924, in Springer, Oklahoma, one of six children of John Wesley and Sarah Pearl "Sally" Doggett. While living in Ardmore, Oklahoma, she met William E. Burns. They were married on June 3, 1942, in Marietta, Oklahoma. While raising their children she was active in all of their childrens activities. After Bill retired from the Air Force, she went back to school and obtained her bachelor of arts degree from Texas Wesleyan University and later taught high school English at Boyd High School for 16 years. She and Bill, who was also a teacher, volunteered and taught English as a second language. She had lived in Saginaw for over 50 years and was active in the community, serving as chairman of the board for the Saginaw Library. She was a longtime and active member of the Rosen Heights Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William E. Burns; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Harris and husband, Richard, of Johnson City, and Karen Burns and husband, Michael Ward, of England; sister, Theatus Sessions; grandchildren, David Harris and wife, Elaine, Darren Harris and wife, Maribel, Damon Harris and Kristen Langford, and Mike Ward; great-grandchildren, Rebecca McRae, Christopher Harris and Birdie Jean Langston-Harris; great-great-grandchildren, Aniah McRae and Adji Wagne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
