Oran McMillin, son, brother, husband, father, Papa, and veteran, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

Born on October 19, 1940, in Valley View, Texas to Oliver Earl and Amelia Havel McMillin, Oran's life was marked by dedication and travel, and commitment to his family. After graduating from Keller High School in 1958, Oran served in the United States Navy until 1961. His time aboard the USS Boston was filled with global travels and adventures to such places as the Bay of Pigs off the coast of Cuba, Greece, and Gibraltar.

Upon his return to Haslet, Texas, Oran married Dolores Ann Curry in the spring of 1962. They were married for 62 years and together they raised three sons: Kelly, Kevin, and Jason.

Oran's career revolved primarily around airplanes and the military. Early on, he was a machinist for General Dynamics and later at Lockheed Martin until his retirement. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Oran later joined the Naval Air Reserve where he continued to serve until he was "piped ashore" and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Fighter Squadron VF-202 as an aircraft mechanic. He worked on or built parts for several key military aircraft such as the F-4 Phantom, the F-14 Tomcat, the F-111 Aardvark, and the F-16 Fighting Falcon. His military service included active-duty tours on aircraft carriers such as the USS America, USS Eisenhower and the USS Enterprise. His time in the Navy instilled a love of travel in him that lasted a lifetime. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, especially to Seward, Alaska and backpacking across the Great Divide in Colorado!

Oran's Christian faith guided him to his heavenly home. In the beginning, he was a member of Saginaw Park Baptist Church where he was baptized and later served as Royal Ambassador Director. After moving to Saginaw, the family joined First Baptist Saginaw, where he attended until the new church building was built out west of town. The old building was acquired by the Saginaw United Methodist Church. He then joined the Methodist Church so that he could continue to ride his bicycle to services. After that, he always jokingly told people, I didn't leave the Baptist, they left me!

Oran is survived by his wife, Dolores McMillin; his sons, Kelly McMillin and wife, Laura of Shallowater, TX; Kevin McMillin and wife, Frieda of Sunset, TX, and Jason McMillin and wife, Sherry of Bryan, TX; eight grandchildren and seven great grandsons. Over the years, he has buried many treasures for his grandkids to find using maps. Some have been found, some have not! We will keep looking! Upon each visit, kids and grandkids were given gas money because he wanted them to come back! He always taught us to not waste anything and to help the less fortunate. His life was a testament to his values, and he will be missed by all who knew him.

According to his wishes, there will be no services. The family will hold a graveside celebration to honor his memory at a later date.

Memorials: The family respectfully request memorials can be made to the Presbyterian Night Shelter, where he volunteered for over 14 years serving the homeless, or his church, Saginaw United Methodist Church.
