Orville Orhel Nix, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family members on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Orville Orhel Nix, Jr. was born February 17, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to Orville Orhel and Ella Louise Robison Nix. He graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1957, where he starred as a pitcher for the Golden Bears. Orville married his High School sweetheart, Harriette Elaine Walker in June the same year.

He was affectionally known as "Boompa" by his 8 grandchildren, and numerous family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, trips to Surfside and Port Aransas beaches and loved gambling at the casino. He never tired of watching any movies starring John Wayne, smoking his cigars while playing dominoes and cards with family and friends. He and Elaine cherished road trips with family and friends, especially to Yellowstone. He loved acting for the DeSoto community theater plays and especially the cast swimming parties he and Elaine hosted at the end of each production.

Orville coached baseball in BBI-Dallas for years, beginning in 1966. His proudest achievement during this time was his 1975 Scorpions team that captured the Pee Wee Reese National Championship in Forest Park, Georgia.

He worked in the Property Tax Department in the City of Dallas as well as working at Montgomery Wards in their tax department giving him experience to start his own property tax consulting firm in 1972 and is known nationwide for his expertise in tax consulting and retired from consulting in 2020.

Orville and Elaine and their three children moved to the Dallas suburb of DeSoto in December of 1969. They were elected life members of the Texas PTA both serving multiple years as Presidents. Orville also served as a DeSoto City Councilman. They were lifetime members of the Church of Christ serving in each community as able.

Orville was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Harriette Elaine (Walker), parents, Orville Orhel Nix, Sr and Ella Louise Robison Nix.

He is survived by his 3 children, daughters, Linda Gayle Jackson and husband, Daryl, Dr. Cynthia Kay Hemesath and husband, Greg, son, David Barrett Nix and wife, Denise; his loving grandchildren, Jeffrey Palmer, Adam Palmer, Leah Palmer, Ingmar Hemesath, Tyler Nix, Trenton Nix, Taylor Jackson and Chance Jackson; and 8 great grandchildren, Kason, Keaton, Olivia, Kenner, Mason, Ryleigh, Truitt and Kenzie.

He was a true Texan, tall in stature, a leader in his community with a Texas sized heart. He will be missed by all that knew him.
