In Loving Memory of Peggy Cocke Brasher

Peggy Cocke Brasher, age 87, a retired Tarrant County Peace Officer, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at her home in Fort Worth, Texas due to an ongoing illness. Peggy was born in Gladewater, Texas.  She was the third child to Jesse James Parnell and Annie Louise Pittman Parnell.

Peggy led a remarkable life marked by her unwavering commitment to service and community.  Over the span of 50 years, she held positions of leadership in various organizations, including the PTA, Woman's Club, and as Election Chairman.  Peggy's altruistic spirit shone brightly as a Sunday school teacher and in countless other endeavors that aimed to uplift and support her community.  At 87 years old, she had explored all the possibilities a girl with limited education could take advantage of.

In 1956, Peggy married the love of her life, Edward Cocke. From this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Patricia. Together they raised her son, James and their daughter Patricia. Their love endured for almost 34 years until 1990 when Ed suffered a stroke and passed away. Peggy faced this loss with strength and resilience.

In 1997, Peggy found love once again and married C.G. Brasher. Tragically, she lost him to cancer in 2002. Despite facing adversity, Peggy continued to exemplify courage.

In 1990, Peggy embarked on a new chapter in her life, joining the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office.  Her dedication and commitment to justice led her to a successful career as a Peace Officer, retiring in 1998.  Not content to sit idly, she returned to the sheriff's department and served as a Peace Officer for several more years before retiring again in 2005.

Peggy's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched as a community leader, and law enforcement professional.  She will be remembered for her resilience, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place.

Peggy is survived by her loving son, James Mayfield and loving daughter, Patricia (Pati) Cocke Martin and Pati's husband, Robert Martin, and grandchildren, Danielle, Savanah, Carrigan, Alexandria, and Jethro. Also including a host of friends, and colleagues who were fortunate enough to know her.
