Well known for her tireless devotion to God, her family, and her students, Rebecca was first and foremost a scholar. Always learning, always growing, and always encouraging others to do the same. Her lifelong thirst for knowledge and her eagerness to share it with others made her a natural teacher. She taught us mathematics, she taught us service, and most importantly she taught us love. A believer in second, third, and fourth chances, Rebecca always kept the light on for others. She herself walked in that light, even to the end. Her sacrifices, her unwavering hope, and her Christ-like example live on in the hearts of those she left behind. Though she was taken too soon, we take comfort in knowing that she is now safe and finally at peace in the arms of the Lord.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Bettye Lou Wells and Lenza Eugene Caffey, Jr.; and her son, Carl William Russell II.
She is survived by her daughter, Lacey Jene Salas and husband Daniel; her son, Matthew Ray Russell, who we also mourn; son-in-law Scott Fowler; her three grandchildren, Kacelynn Danielle Russell, Emmzlee Sue Russell, and Nova Jene Salas; six siblings (Reba, Regina, Ruthie, Randy, Ronnie, Billy and their respective spouses); beloved nephew and roommate Darrell Caffey, as well as a slew of other nieces, nephews, honorary grandchildren, and cherished friends.
