Obituary

Richard Alan David was born Tuesday, April 12, 1960, in Sulphur, Louisiana, to Louie and Hazel David. A proud Louisiana native, Richard eventually brought his Cajun roots to Texas in 1984, where he built a life filled with family, friendships, faith, laughter, and countless stories. His Louisiana roots remained even after he made Texas home, carrying with him the warmth, character, and spirit of the place where his life began.

Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2026, Biggers Funeral Chapel.

Richard was a man who wore many hats: Loving and Devoted Husband being his proudest achievement. In 2014, the God of endless chances brought him a second marriage with Charis Lawson David.

He had a fiery spirit, a compassionate heart, and a determination to get things done. If something needed fixing, he was ready to figure it out. If someone needed help, he wanted to be there. And if a room needed laughter, Richard was often ready with a story. Of course, with Richard, a good story could turn into a long story! He had a way of drawing people in, keeping them listening, and making them laugh. His humor and his unmistakable energy were part of what made him who he was. He was a natural teacher, always sharing what he knew, offering solutions, and leaving people with something to think about—or something to laugh about.

Richard believed in showing up and doing what needed to be done. He was a man who cared deeply for the people in his life, and he loved connecting and being part of the moments that make life meaningful. One of the most impactful expressions of his heart was his willingness to mentor and raise up sons and daughters as if they were his own. He taught construction skills, built worship leaders, & taught numerous Bible and Prophetic classes throughout his life. One of his first acts of love, shortly after joining the Lawson family, was taking his new 9-year-old niece Emily on a date to the ballet, followed by a nice dinner. He insisted on taking her to a restaurant with tablecloths because he wanted her to know her worth and for her to have an awareness of how she deserved to be treated by a man. Though having his own children was not part of his story, he demonstrated that family is built not only through blood, but through love, commitment, and the choice to be there.

Above all, Richard was a man whose presence left an impression. He was not a man easily summed up in a few words. He was a collection of stories, laughter, lessons, strong opinions, big energy, faith, and love. Those who knew him will carry their own memories of Richard—the moments that made them smile, the times he showed up when they needed him, and the stories they will tell for years to come.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Hazel David; his father-in-law, Joel Lawson; his brothers, Lawrence Earl and Hershall Paul; his late wife, Rita David; his niece, Savannah Vincent; and his nephews, Sky David and Steven Thibodeaux David.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Charis David; his sister, Patricia David; his brother, Wade David; his brother, Mark David, and wife, Toni Lynn; and his brother, Todd David, and wife, Jo; nephews, Lawrence David II, Randal David, Shane Foust, Stewart Vincent, Spencer Vincent, Jonathan David, Jaren David, Brendon David, Cade Lawson, and Kelan Lawson; and his nieces, Tammy Foust, Erin David, Lyla Wilfer, and Emily Lawson; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as one great-great-nephew.

From the bayous and hometown streets of Louisiana to the wide-open heart of Texas, Richard lived his own story—and he leaves a little of himself in everyone who was fortunate enough to be part of it.

May the Lord welcome him home, may the music never end, and may the stories and laughter he leaves behind keep his spirit close to those who love him. Laissez les bons temps rouler—let the good times roll.
