Obituary

Richard Som entered eternal rest, Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 38.

Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025, Victory Church, 5116 River Oaks Blvd, River Oaks, TX 76114, as we honor Richard's life and rejoice in his homegoing to be with the Lord.

Born on April 27, 1987, in Dallas, Texas, Richard lived a life transformed by faith, marked by generosity, and filled with an unwavering love for God and others.

Richard's greatest passion was serving the Lord. He loved sharing the gospel and "hitting the streets" to reach souls for Christ. His faith was not only spoken but lived out daily in the way he loved people—through acts of service, encouragement, and compassion.

He had a contagious joy and a sense of humor that could brighten any room. Richard loved to make people laugh and to remind them that they were loved and seen by God. A natural athlete, he especially loved basketball and dreamed of coaching young children—using the game to guide them toward faith, hope, and a life away from danger.

In the last six months of his life, Richard found healing and renewal at Victory Men's Home, where he experienced freedom from addiction and depression. There, he served faithfully sharing the gospel, encouraging others, and walking boldly in the purpose God gave him. His journey stands as a powerful testimony of grace, redemption, and God's transforming love.

Richard is deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his mother, Hen Thou, and his sisters, Sapier Lam and Lynda Som, along with many friends, brothers in Christ, and all whose lives were touched by his faith and kindness.

"And he said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

~ Matthew 22:37–39 (ESV)
