Robert Burns Penneman passed from this life on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the age of 87 with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren at his bedside.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at Biggers Funeral Chapel. Inurnment with military honors will be at 2:15 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Community Hospice House at the James L. Born to Sheri Ruth Driscoll and Walter Penneman in Los Angeles, California, he was raised most of his young life in Phoenix, Arizona, and then San Diego, California, with three other siblings. He was a World War II veteran of the Army and served in communications in the Philippines. He later worked at Convair in San Diego, California, where he met his wife Janice and endured a loving marriage of 62 years with five children, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. While working at Convair and raising a family, he obtained a degree in engineering by attending night classes at San Diego State College. His expertise in structural engineering was needed at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, which meant a job transfer from San Diego in order to support his growing family. His accomplishments included structural designs, especially on the wing sections, for the F-111, F-16, and F-22 fighter planes. He lived 50 years in the Handley/Meadowbrook area with his wife after moving the family from California. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather who we shall truly miss.
