Robert Eugene Wirtz, age 78, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Service: 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2026, Biggers Funeral Chapel, 6100 Azle Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76135.
Visitation: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., prior to Service.
He was born August 31, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas to Edward Russell and Rosa Edith (Bellah) Wirtz. Robert was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he grew up and graduated from Carter Riverside High School. He then attended the University of Texas at Arlington.
Robert was self-employed in a video game business until "video game" became a household convenience and the Arcade was history. He also worked for Aspen Airlines and was working for Sams Club upon retirement. In addition to his work career, his passion was building and painting wood yard art. It was his hobby that all family members got to enjoy and share a piece of…it was true talent.
Robert was well known for his easy-going nature and sweet temperament. He was a gentle giant and a true gentleman. Always offered a grand smile.
Roberts love for Gayle was evident as they shared an inspirable bond having been married for 32 years. They did everything together and made many cherished memories together.
He had no children of his own, but when he became family to Gayle, he opened his heart and arms to her children and claimed them as his own. He was a loving husband and friend. His favorite little people called him "Papa".
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell and Ronnie; and sister, Rita.
He is survived by his wife Gayle of 32 years and children, Lex and Carolyn Cox, Paula and James Cobb, and Tommy Cox; six grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
