All are welcome to help celebrate a life of love for others.
He was born May 14, 1946 in West Plains, Missouri to Loyed and Nellie Abney with twelve brothers and sisters.
Roy served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, working alongside the chaplain on the USS Ashtabula. He returned to Missouri and began a long career in the grocery business, owning his own convenience store as well as managing local branches of larger chains. But the most important thing to Roy was his family, all of whom would frequently congregate at his home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Billy, Loyed Jr., Gary, Lendall, Donald, Ronald; and sisters, Dwyla, Peggy, Patricia, and Judy.
Roy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alene Kay Climer; a sister, Robin Shelton (Doug) of Willard, Missouri; two daughters, Melissa Ray of Fort Worth, Texas and Rebecca Lyon of Springfield, Missouri and sons-in-law Ricky Ray and Kirk Lyon; five grandchildren, Haley Younger, James Ray, Katie Firnbach, Austin Lyon, Jacob Ray; six great-grandchildren, along with many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
