Ruth Spanjers, age 87, passed on January 25, 2024 peacefully in her sleep.

Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Hwy 195, Killeen, Texas.

Please plan to arrive at 10:30am to proceed into the cemetery. There will be a gathering after the service. Details will be provided at the cemetery.

Ruth was born in Sisseton, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm where she chased chickens with her sisters and brothers. Her family moved to Brookings, SD for high school and she attended college at South Dakota State University where she met the love of her life Leonard. They were married and she graduated with her bachelor's degree in nursing. Next, she had her four children in only five years and moved frequently through the years as her husband transferred with the military. She loved to travel and always had a garden wherever they lived. When Leonard retired in Texas, she returned to her nursing career in Texas.

She was the kindest soul and truly loved having all of her family visit. Her forte was cooking for them all, especially her shrimp and crab boils. She raised her children to love God and has joined Jesus and her beloved Len in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and one brother; and her beloved husband of 59 years, Leonard Spanjers.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Linda) Spanjers, Kathy (Bob) Rollins, Eileen (Ted) Burgess, Diane (Eddie) Upchurch; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren.
