Shirley “Nana” Laughlin was a one-of-a-kind woman whose spunky personality, love for her family, and unmistakable spirit left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.
Celebration of Life: Her family invites all who knew and loved her to gather on Sunday, October 18, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Biggers Funeral Home in Lake Worth, Texas.
There will be no formal service, but rather an opportunity for family and friends to come together, share memories, and honor a life so well lived and deeply loved.
Known to many as Shirley, Pearl, Sis, or simply Nana, she wore many names throughout her life, but each one belonged to a woman who was deeply loved by family, friends, and everyone in between.
A football-loving, red-hat-wearing lady with a personality all her own, Shirley was never one to shy away from showing her team spirit. Whether she was cheering on her beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, or Dallas Cowboys, you could always count on her to be a passionate fan. But as much as she loved her football teams, nothing compared to the pride she had in her family. She was their biggest cheerleader, always showing up to support her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in whatever they were doing. If there was an event, a game, or a special occasion, you could count on Nana being there.
Shirley loved nothing more than bringing people together. She had a passion for cooking and found so much joy in gathering family and friends around the table. Whether it was a holiday celebration, a special occasion, or just a random weekday, there was always a good reason to get together. Some of the best memories were made over a home-cooked meal, a friendly (and sometimes competitive) game of Canasta, LCR, or Gin Rummy, or simply sitting around visiting and enjoying each other's company. To Shirley, it didn't have to be a special occasion to make a special memory. The company was what mattered most, and she had a way of making even an ordinary afternoon feel like something worth remembering.
Shirley was also proud of her heritage and enjoyed being involved in organizations that reflected her interests and love for tradition. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
She had a special way of making people feel welcomed, loved, and included. Her friendships were treasured, her family was her pride and joy, and her larger-than-life personality made her someone you simply couldn't forget. She lived with a little sass, a lot of spirit, and a tremendous amount of love.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton Leroy Wigley and Dorothy Kinney Wigley; and her beloved grandson, Richard “Ricky” Mori.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lisa Mori; her grandchildren, Lauren Fields and Allie Mori; her great-grandchildren, Lorelai Fields, Andrew Fields and Lexi Mori; her brother, Carlton Leroy Wigley; and her nephew, Carlton Wigley III, along with many cherished friends and extended family members.
While her presence will be deeply missed, the memories, laughter, traditions, and love she leaves behind will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. Her family will forever cherish the holidays spent together, the meals shared around her table, the card games played, and the countless ordinary moments that became extraordinary simply because she was there.
No matter whether you knew her as Shirley, Pearl, Sis, or Nana, one thing is certain: to know her was to love her, and to love her was a gift.
