Stephen Carlton Andrews, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away due to health complications on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Texas Health Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

Steve was born June 3, 1943, to Coy Eugene Andrews and Ruth Wilson in Wilmington, North Carolina. The first in his family to go on to higher education, Steve graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

During his college years, he met Elinor Benson, and they married in 1966, celebrating 58 years of marriage this September.

From Maryland, they moved to Sacramento, where Steve worked at McClellan AFB while earning a Master's degree from Sacramento State University.

Steve had a long career and only recently retired in 2023 just before his 80th birthday. His career took him from Sacramento to Florida, where he worked for NASA, and then back to Sacramento working for McClellan. Steve then transferred to Colorado Springs, Colorado. After retiring from civil service, he hired on at Lockheed Martin and moved to Ft. Worth in 2004. Upon finishing a contract with Lockheed, he worked the last years of his career for Raytheon.

During retirement, he enjoyed helping Elinor care for the house and animals. Every afternoon, they would drive together to Starbucks to share their special treat, a venti white chocolate mocha, half-sweet. The baristas knew them by name.

Steve was a quiet, laid-back person, a man of few words - until you asked him questions about his work, stories from his past, or even politics. Then he would open up and talk freely. He had a dry sense of humor and cracked jokes that would either make you laugh - or roll your eyes. He loved food of all kinds and was an adventurous cook.

Steve is survived by his wife, Elinor; children, Glenda (Andy) Gallagher; Travis (Inna) Andrews, Rachel Williams, Sharon (Mark) Smith, Ryan (Meghan) Andrews, Lisa (Leonard) Gold; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Ruth Andrews; brother, Paul Andrews; and son, Stephen Eugene.
