Stephen James MacWhirter, 75, of Fort Worth, Texas, peacefully passed away from cancer at his home with his family by his side on November 20, 2023.

Celebration of Life to honor Steve MacWhirter: 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Lighthouse Fellowship Church, 7200 Robertson Road, Fort Worth, Texas.

Inurnment: 2:15 pm, following the Celebration of Life, Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas.

Steve was born on September 23, 1949, in Pasadena, California, to Bertram and Vivian MacWhirter. He grew up in Monrovia, California, and attended Monrovia High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served 4 years, with part of his service in Vietnam where he was an aircraft mechanic.

Steve married his high school sweetheart, Diane, in 1971. He finished his military service at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. Their daughter, Mandy, was born in 1972. After an honorable discharge, Steve returned to Monrovia to join the family's plumbing business in 1977. Their son, Mike, was born to complete the family.

In 1984, he moved his family to Fort Worth, Texas. Steve received his master plumber license. Steve soon followed his passion and became a custom home builder. He built beautiful homes throughout the area. He took pride in his work and enjoyed teaching others the trade.

Steve was a proud Vietnam Veteran and a Godly man who loved his family and enjoyed reading his daily devotionals in the quiet of the early morning. He was hardworking, intelligent, funny, witty, and liked to crack jokes. He was an honest man whose word was his handshake. He loved to read, BBQ, listen to all genres of music, play poker, watch football, go to the gym, take road trips, and ride his motorcycle. Steve was also a private pilot and would fly whenever possible.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bertram and Vivian MacWhirter.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane; his daughter, Mandy; son, Mike, and his wife, Cynthya; his sister, Janice, and her husband, Larry; his grandchildren, Paige and Tyler, and his niece Rachel and her children, Mason and Connor.

His family and friends will greatly miss him.
