Travis Putman was born September 11, 1934, at Breckenridge, Texas, while Breckenridge was still an oil boomtown. He passed away September 15, 2024, shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday.
The Family will receive Friends from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Tuesday, September 23, 2024 at Biggers Funeral Home.
Private Committal will be held at Veal Station Cemetery, Parker County, Texas.
After graduating from Tyler High School, Travis earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas Austin. Designer of the F-16 landing gear. Travis began working at General Dynamics in 1956 and continued working at General Dynamics/Lockheed for fifty years. The F-16 landing gear is also on NASA's X-59 plane.
Travis enjoyed sailing, golf, and travel. He sailed in the Fort Worth Boat Club races on Sunday afternoons (30 years as a crew member on Spring Fever). Golf was usually played on Thursday's. After retirement, travel trips included China with the Flying Longhorns, Australia, a Caribbean cruise, and the 2018 Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas cruise to Alaska which completes visits to all 50 U.S. states.
Travis is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda Putman; his son, Philip Travis Putman and wife, Heather; three grandchildren, Bryce, Katherine, and Claire Putman of Huron, Ohio; and a brother, Joe Putman of Point Venture, Texas.
